Charlestown, Claire & Carol

A mother/daughter trip to the southern state of South Carolina! Happened last week..and we missed Kate being there immensely but we had a very, very nice time. Did some beach, some city and some nature (of course!).

The  beach was  relaxing, pristine and some nice shells were found.

The "Single House" was an iconic style....seen above here. The one room wide homes had porches off both floors to let the air circulate before the age of AC.

An old theatre transformed into an Urban Outfitters was pure joy. Most operating fixtures including the original chandelier, the balcony, the workings of the stage with the old curtains and sand bags, drops and pulleys were preserved!!!

City streets and alley ways were alive at night, rain or shine, week day or weekend. Many restaurants making it so hard to chose but we had two delicious "low country" high style meals!

The kayaking adventure was recorded mistakenly in black & white. Storks, seagulls and The Seahorse, a shrimp boat still look sweet in this mode. Claire wants to live here!

She connects here with a stork after a long kayaking journey.

I connect here with a bird on the beach. One little banana, one little taste and I had a friend for the rest of the morning!

We Think Alike!

Tonight, I was surprised by my daughter. A special "tomato" season gift from the heart. Thank you so much Kate!

Dish Towels with a tomato print!!!! I absolutely LOVE them! But what I love even more is her enthusiasm for the fresh taste of home grown tomatoes. We went out to see if there were any more ripening..and found some to have been eaten by our friendly bunny?....so sad to see the harvest enjoyed by someone other than ourselves!

But we gathered the rest and put them inside on a windowsill. I would rather they ripen outdoors but I want to see if our McGregor's garden rabbit does any more harm.

Marathon Weekend

Two brave souls from my family successfully ran the 1/2 marathon in Fairfield today! It started off as a "severe" fog morning...and weather forecasts did not expect it to lift. Well, it did. Just as they were lining up to the start (I was home trying to take a quick exercise/seaglass walk) the fog lifted and the sun with much humidity on top, smiled down upon them.  They ran together, brother & sister and crossed the finish line almost hand in hand. Or maybe that is just what my image is.....as a mom! Love them and congratulations for a "fait accompli".

Seaglass Festival 2010

Sometimes you look back and say why didn't I do this! Well, I said, considering I love seaglass I should go to this festival that happens yearly when it is within driving distance this year!  Fortunately, I have 2 lovely daughters that understand me. They knew it was going to happen. We had also established the yearly tradition of a mom-daughter get away weekend...perfect!

So, with our "shards" in hand, we went...thinking we would win the Shard of the Year Contest.

My entry was a deep red piece I found along my beach walk out to "Pleasure Beach". It looked like a brown but when I held it up to the sun, it just glowed....it was such a find! Along with this gem I entered a pale pink piece. I thought....who has found such "rare" pieces!!!

Well, we did not win but we had, as always a fantastic Mother-Daughter weekend. We went on to visit the Potato Chip Factory, have a few good dinners and drink wine. What else could anyone want?

I KNOW WHAT ANYONE COULD WANT!!!...our next Mother - Daughter get-away is going to be someplace warm, sunny and have no hidden agenda. I promise.
